Es Baluard – the bastion –, is the reference museum of Palma. Situated in a unique tourist enclave, it gathers together an important contemporary art collection. Baluard is the name of the building where it is located. The bastion of San Pere is a fortification built in the 17th century on the ancient medieval wall. Today it is in good condition and it is located in a privileged place. Since its foundation in 2004, it has held the works of artists such as Andy Warhol, Santiago Russiñol or the famous Spanish architect Calatrava; whereas in its permanent collection, there are artists of the stature of Miró or Anselm Kiefer. If you decide to visit the museum in summer, do not forget to come over here on Fridays night to feel the festive athmosphere. Es Baluard also organizes live theatre, dance and music performances.
